Catch the Baltic winds with your blades: opening of the Offshore Infocenter Rostock
The project "South Baltic Offshore Wind Energy Regions" (SB OFF.E.R) held its final conference within the framework of the international conference and exhibition “Wind & Maritim” welcoming about 300 participants at the HanseMesse Exhibition Center in Rostock. The South Baltic project took the occasion to officially open the first permanent offshore wind energy exhibition in Germany.

Initiated within the project, and installed on board of a museum ship, the exhibition embarks on efforts to raise public awareness about offshore wind energy in general. By means of audio-visual demonstrations and 3D-models, the centre pursues educational goals, and reveals positive economical effects and qualification requirements for the emerging branch.

The ribbon was jointly cut by the Mayor of Rostock Roland Methling, Andrée Iffländer (Wind Energy Network e.V.),   Thorsten Kohlisch (Head of the South Baltic Programme Secretariat), Jörgen Thiele, (Stiftung OFFSHORE-Windenergie) and Christian Weiß (Rostock Business).

A business networking agreement signed during the conference paves the way for cross-border offshore wind energy liaison between Denmark, Germany, Poland and Sweden.

SB OFF.E.R delivered a panoply of tools to boost the offshore wind energy sector in the region such as the Offshore Knowledge Toolbox (a knowledge bank for trainings on offshore wind energy), the South Baltic Wind Atlas (an indispensable tool for wind farm planning), a map showcasing offshore wind energy projects in the South Baltic, a Business Cluster Map as well as a study on the impact of offshore wind energy for the tourism sector.
