Lithuanian MEP hosts a meeting on BalticMuseums 2.0 Plus in Brussels
What do coastal tourism, marine education and information technologies have in common? The co-operation efforts of BalticMuseums 2.0 Plus converge all these aspects in a cross-border project that resonated with over thirty representatives of the European Parliament, the European Commission and other Brussels-based organisations.

MEP Radvile Morkunaite-Mikuleniene of Lithuania was host of a lunch briefing at the premises of the European Parliament, which was designed to introduce the merits of more than three years of cross-border co-operation between oceanographic museums, research and educational facilities in the South Baltic area.

“The use of synchronised cross-border concepts and information technology in oceanographic museums helps our efforts to contribute to the Blue Growth strategy of the EU, and in particular to the development of coastal tourism” says Professor Klotz, project leader of BalticMuseums 2.0 Plus.

After a keynote address by Beate Gminder of Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, the guests enjoyed the opportunity to personally test the multi-lingual eGuides developed for oceanographic museums in Germany, Poland and Lithuania.

Dr Jan-Stefan Fritz of the German Marine Research Consortium explains the reason for inviting BalticMuseums 2.0 Plus to the European Parliament: “The European Union is committed to support coastal tourism, comprising also the vast distribution of knowledge about the sea to the general public. The project team of BalticMuseums 2.0 Plus unites the necessary expertise of information technology, the sea and educational concepts.”

This lunch briefing was organised in March 2014 by the Brussels office of the German Marine Research Consortium.
